Hi, I’m Aneri

I'm a Marine Ecologist, Science Communicator, Artist and Ocean Justice campaigner living in Huu-ay-aht First Nations territory on the West coast of Vancouver Island, colonially known as Bamfield BC. I'm a queer, cis, neurodivergent, south-asian woman from a dominant caste. My work is cross-disciplinary, creative, and as intersectional as the identities at which I lie.

The fluid pathway of my career flows to follow my core values: curiosity, honesty & equity. I bring these values to my work as a scientist, artist, advocate, media producer and anti-oppression facilitator.

I love to share stories about my research, teach yoga from a decolonial lens, spend time in and on the water with my puppy, bake sweet treats, and collaborate with my comrades for a dreamy future.

If you'd like to work on a scheme or dream together, please reach out!

Stand.Earth: Canada Shipping Campaigner

I'm part of a team working with CPAWS BC (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, British Columbia Chapter) and WCEL (West Coast Environmental Law) campaigning for stronger cruise ship pollution policy in Canada. The growing stain of the cruise ship industry's pollution within Canada's ocean jurisdiction is a growing problem. Find out more about the campaign and how you can get involved here.

Research Associate: Embedding Information Literacy & Science Communication into Science Curricula

In this study being led by Abeer Siddiqui (McMaster University) and Dr. Sara Smith (Mount Royal University), we are exploring students' & community's perceived value, impact and efficacy of integrating skills in information literacy and science communication in undergraduate STEM curricula. Outcomes of this project will inform STEM programs, add to the limited body of empirical research on dialogue-based communication and explore how students intend to incorporate skills into future professional practices.

ECOP (Early Career Ocean Professionals) Canada

My work with the ECOP Canada network aims to strengthen intergenerational equity by addressing the barriers ECOPs face entering and moving through Canada's growing ocean sector, and to address the needs of the community. We do so by building ECOPs' connections to the ocean, communicating diverse career pathways, support experiential learning, and offer capacity development through community engagement opportunities.
